Makerere University
Library in partnership with Oslo University College will be conducting the
LATINA (Learning and Teaching in a Digital World) course in Africa for the
first time in June 2012. The course is
offered by the LATINA Lab at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied
Science (HiOA). The Lab develops, demonstrates and provides intensive training
in teaching and learning methods that are based on the current state of-the-art
and emerging trends in user-oriented ICT.
The course starts with
three online lectures on May 15, May 22 and May 29, combined with introductory
readings and assignments. The on-site training takes place at Makerere
University Library from June 18th -29 June, 2012 LATINA Lab in the New Building
Extension Level 2. The course is a mix of presentations, discussions and
hands-on work with computers and audio-visual equipment. A high level of
student activity and commitment is required. Participants are encouraged to
bring their own laptops. The application form should be accompanied with a
motivation statement. Please note that strong individual motivation, documented
by a personal statement of interest, could replace institutional backing.
Participants are encouraged to study information about the course on the web http://africa.latina.pedit.hio.no/?page_id=5511 before applying.
The two weeks’ training is practice oriented and quite intensive.
Through a grant from
INASP, nine participants have been partially sponsored from the East African
Community (Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda). Sponsorship includes: Air tickets,
Accommodation, Lunch and refreshments. Each listed country should nominate
three candidates to apply for the course. However, institutions are encouraged
to sponsor other staff members to attend the course. Admission to the course
will be on first-come first-serve basis. In the spirit of cost sharing, all
participants are advised to apply for sponsorship from their institutions to
cover: Registration fee: $150, Transport to and from the Airport and supper.
Application deadline is 20th April, 2012. Please send the application form, and
supporting documents by e-mail to universitylibrarian@mulib.mak.ac.ug
