REMINDER: CALL FOR APPLICATION: EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE WORKSHOP (23-25 June 2014)

Once Again, the Directorate of Library Services at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in collaboration with Information and Training Center for Africa (ITOCA) and Elsevier Foundation are organizing a workshop on Evidence Based Practice and Critical Appraisal from 23-25 June 2014.
 
VENUE: Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences
 
COURSE STRUCTURE
The workshop will be conducted over three days (23-25 June 2014). The workshop will comprise lectures delivered in a classroom setting, hands-on exercises, group work and individual practical work delivered both physically and through video conference facilities 
 
CONTENT
This three-day workshop will introduce you to evidence based practice and critical appraisal techniques and equip you with skills in using web 2.0 tools to enhance and improve evidence based health care, collaborative work and knowledge sharing within your organization and with stakeholders, and increase the level of innovation within your organisation.
 
FUNDING AND FINANCE
This course is supported and funded by Elsevier Foundation. The sponsorship for successful applicants will cover the cost of registration, light refreshments and lunches for each participant. A small allowance to cover the accommodation costs shall be given to participants from outside Dar es salaam.

PARTICIPATION

The course is open to researchers, lecturers, library and information professionals, health care professionals, and graduate students from institutions involved in medical and health sciences. Specifically, participants are expected to come from relevant government ministries, Non-Governmental Organizations, universities and faculties of medical and health sciences. The language of instruction is English. No basic computer and internet modules will be covered during the workshop.

INVITATION TO ATTEND A WORKSHOP ON THE TEACHING & LEARNING IN THE CLOUD USING GOOGLE DRIVE (WEDNESDAY, 28TH MAY 2014)

The Directorate of Library Services is organizing a half day workshop training on “TEACHING & LEARNING IN THE CLOUD USING GOOGLE DRIVE” on Wednesday, 28th May 2014. You are therefore requested to attend the workshop, which will be conducted at MUHAS Library ICT Lab, Second Floor of the Library Building on Wednesday, 28th May 2014 (9 am – 1.00 pm).

The workshop focuses on building capacity of academic staff and postgraduate students at MUHAS to use Google drive to enhance their teaching, learning, collaboration and research activities.  Participants will be introduced to Google drive and will learn how to use them hands-on. The workshop will mainly focus on the following topics:
-          Introduction to the participatory cloud computing & World Wide Web (Web 2.0)  technologies
-          Remote collaboration: How to develop content remotely using Google drive
-          Creation of online surveys in google drive

Overall Course objectives:
This two days workshop, will introduce participants to the terminology and some of the software tools that support creation of online references, storage of online documents, and online publishing by using web 2.0 technologies.

 Course Main Topics
·         create your personal online accounts containing all your references in a single place accessible from anywhere;
·         import references automatically from research databases and library catalogs;
·         organize and annotate references according to your own needs;
·         Cite while you’re writing by using online reference software 
·         Format references and bibliographies for your papers or thesis automatically in all major bibliographic styles (APA, MLA, Vancouver, or thousands of other styles).
·         Use web 2.0 to create online references
·         Online publishing through web 2.0 tools

Who Should Attend? Professionals involved in research, information management, institutional management, librarians, lecturers, project administrators and any other professional who has a use for references  in their work.

Training Format: Training over 2 consecutive days, Face to face in a group setting and practical sessions for online reference management software and web 2.0 technologies, Attendance on all 2 days is required for certificate of completion.
