WORKSHOP ON SCIENTIFIC WRITING AND INFORMATION LITERACY (30th October to 10th November, 2017)

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The ten (10) days’ workshop will equip participants with relevant knowledge and skills in Scientific writing and information to doctorial and MSc by research at MUHAS, faculty members, and other researchers and practitioners from outside MUHAS.

COURSE CONTENTS:
The course will be conducted for a period of two weeks. The following topics will be covered:
o   Basis of scientific writing
o   Information retrieval and text mining
o   Citation and reference management and relevant software
o   Writing an original scientific article and thesis
o   Writing winning grant proposals
o   Writing in popular science: policy briefs, blogs
o   Publication process and evaluation of published science
o   Ethics in scientific writing,
o   Copyright and licensing issues in online publishing
o   Sharing of academic content on web 2.0 technologies and information self-services

SCHEDULE OF THE TRAINING
·         Week One (30th October – 3rd November, 2017) – will focus on scientific writing
o   Basics of scientific writing, writing a scientific journal, popular science, grant writing, and publication process, submission and peer review, ethics in scientific writing
·         Week Two (6th – 10th November, 2017) – will focus on information search strategies and reference management
o   Information retrieval and text mining, Citation and reference management and relevant software, open access, open data and open science, access to subscribed databases, sharing of academic content on web 2.0 technologies and information self-services, and copyright and licensing issues in online publishing

TARGET GROUP:
This short course is targeted to PhD candidate and MSc students by Research, faculty members, and other researchers and practitioners from outside MUHAS.

WORKSHOP DATES AND VENUE:
The workshop will be conducted from 30th October to 10th November 2017 (10 days) at Muhimbili University library ICT LAB located at the 2nd Floor of the library building.

WORKSHOP FEE:
The training is free for MUHAS students.
However, participants from outside MUHAS will need to pay the tuition fees.
  • The total workshop fee is TZS 500,000/= per each participant covering the course fee, stationeries, refreshments and certificates.
  • However, if the participant prefers to attend the workshop only for one week, the workshop fee will be250,000/-

FACILITATORS:
The course will be facilitated by experienced subject experts from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences.

PAYMENT MODE:

MUHAS Center for Evidence Synthesis (MCES), A GESI member

We are pleased to announce that the MUHAS Center for Evidence Synthesis (MCES), is now a member of the Global Evidence Synthesis Initiative (GESI) Network.

The GESI Consortium is a group of leading organizations in evidence syntheses: Cochrane, Campbell Collaboration, the Alliance for Health Policy & Systems Research (AHPSR), the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), the American Institutes for Research (AIR), the EPPI-Center, the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence (CEE) and the Joanna Birggs Institute (JBI).

Digitization and Digital Preservation Workshop - 3 Aug – 4 Aug 2017

ITOCA in collaboration with the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences,  is pleased to announce a Digitization and Digital Preservation workshop to be held in Dar es salaam, Tanzania
The aim of the workshop is to increase participants’ knowledge on Digitization of library collections, digitization project management and digital preservation. 

Some of the topics covered will include:
·         Project Management of digitization projects;
·         Importance of file formats;
·         Digitization standards and workflow.
·         Digital preservation considerations;
·         Using digitization tools.
