WORKSHOP ON RECORDS MANAGEMENT AND CATALOGING

WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT
DATE:19th- 21st OCTOBER, 2015
WORKSHOP ON RECORDS MANAGEMENT AND CATALOGING

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The three days workshop will equip participants with advanced knowledge and technical skills on records management; library cataloging and classification and subject analysis.
COURSE CONTENTS:
Specifically the workshop will cover the following topics:

  • ·         Basic records terminologies and different types of records
  • ·         Standards and procedures for organization of records
  • ·         Application of procedures for  organizing  records
  • ·         Introduction to organization of knowledge
  • ·         Descriptive cataloging of library materials using AACR2 rules
  • ·         Subject analysis and formulation of subject headings
  • ·         Application of Library of Congress and Dewey Decimal Classification Schemes
  • ·         CIP Cataloging
  • ·         Online cataloging

TARGET GROUP:
Professionals involved in information management, records management, archivists, librarians, information scientists, and any other professionals in records management and library cataloging and classification.   

WORKSHOP DATES AND VENUE:
The workshop will be conducted from Monday 19th to Wednesday 21st October 2015 (3 days) at Muhimbili University Library ICT LAB
WORKSHOP FEE:                                                                                                                         
The workshop fee is TZS 350,000/= per each participant covering the course fee, stationeries, refreshments and certificates. Participants are requested to arrange transport and accommodation at their own cost.
FACILITATORS:
The course will be facilitated by experienced subject and educational specialists from Muhimbili University Library in collaboration with their counterpart from the University of Dar es Salaam Library.
PAYMENT MODE:
Payment is due before start of workshop. Payment can be made through the institutional bank account at any National Microfinance Bank (NMB) branch. This book displays the validity of the theory of evolution by illustrating dozens of fossils remains gathered from various parts of the world

Evidence based practice workshop at MUHAS, Tanzania 10-12 August 2015

Once Again, the Directorate of Library Services at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in collaboration with Information and Training Center for Africa (ITOCA) and Elsevier Foundation are organizing a workshop on Evidence Based Practice and Critical Appraisal from  10-12 August 2015
 
VENUE: Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences

MODE OF DELIVERY: Face to face, video conference and hands-on practice
 
COURSE STRUCTURE
The workshop will be conducted over three days (10-12 August 2015). The workshop will comprise lectures delivered in a classroom setting, hands-on exercises, group work and individual practical work delivered both physically and through video conference facilities 
 
CONTENT
This three-day workshop will introduce you to evidence based practice and critical appraisal techniques and equip you with skills in using web 2.0 tools to enhance and improve evidencebased health care, collaborative work and knowledge sharing within your organization and with stakeholders, and increase the level of innovation within your organisation.
 
FUNDING AND FINANCE
This course is supported and funded by Elsevier Foundation. The sponsorship for successful applicants will cover the cost of registration, light refreshments and lunches for each participant. A small allowance to cover the accommodation costs shall be given to participants from outside Dar es salaam.

PARTICIPATION

The course is open to researchers, lecturers, library and information professionals, health care professionals, and graduate students from institutions involved in medical and health sciences. Specifically, participants are expected to come from relevant government ministries, Non-Governmental Organizations, universities and faculties of medical and health sciences. The language of instruction is English. No basic computer and internet modules will be covered during the workshop.

• How to upload research outputs to MUHAS repository.
• Evidence based databases TRIP, Cochrane.
• Use of technologies for teaching Web 2.0 drop box, G-Drive including Googledocs, Google forms.
• Access and search relevant open access resources for health
