Call for Papers for IST-Africa 2013

Hosted by the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology, and Supported by the European Commission and African Union Commission, IST-Africa 2013 will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 15 - 17 May 2013.

IST-Africa 2013 is focused on applied ICT and the core thematic areas include:

- eGovernment - Services to Citizens & Business

Interested presenters are encouraged to prepare an 8 page paper (4,000 - 5,000 words) using the IST-Africa 2013 paper guidelines and paper template provided on the IST-Africa Conference Portal, for submission online by 07 December.

New technical reports from the Institute of Traditional Medicine at MUHAS have been added into the MUHAS institutional repository


These are the new titles of technical reports that have been added into the MUHAS institutional repository:
  • Promotion of community based commercial cultivation of herbal medicines and packaging of herbal nutritional supplements
  •  Promotion of community based cultivation of Hibiscus sabdariffa, Moringa oleifera, Adansonia digitata and Aloe vera for use as herbal nutritional supplements for people living with HIV/AIDS

Call for Applications for doctoral candidates to participate in the 1st SA-YSSP, scheduled for 1 December 2012 to 28 February 2013.

The National Research Foundation (NRF) as the National Member Organisation (NMO), in collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), has developed a novel and innovative initiative with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) to establish the Southern African Young Scientists Summer Program (SA-YSSP).
 
As an SA-YSSP participant, you will be associated with an SA-YSSP research project. Therefore, you are invited to indicate your preference for one to three projects that you are interested in working on before, during, and after the SA-YSSP core period of three months.

Workshop on Library Cataloguing, Classification and Records Management at MUHAS (24th -28th September 2012) - Open for Registration


The Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) through its MUHAS Library will organize a four days workshop on Library Cataloging, Classification and Records Management

WORKSHOP FEES: Tsh 350,000/= per participant to cover stationery, meals ( tea and lunch ), lecture notes and certificate.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:To equip the participants with the relevant skills and knowledge in library cataloguing and classification and records management

FACILITATORS: The course will be facilitated by experienced librarian from Muhimbili University Library,  UDSM  Library and Tanzania Library Service

Future Research Leaders - Call for Proposals 2012/13

The Future Research Leaders scheme aims to support outstanding early career researchers to carry out excellent research and to develop all aspects of their research and knowledge exchange skills.

The closing date for proposals is 16.00 on 4 October 2012.

Awards will be for a maximum of three years with an overall limit of £312,500 (at 100 per cent full Economic Cost). ESRC aims to fund around 70 awards.

Scholarships for postraduate studies and international short courses


DAAD in association with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is providing 5 in-region scholarships for a PhD programme in Mathematical Sciences.

These scholarships are available to students wishing to commence a PhD programme at a South African University in 2013. The scholarships will cover the tuition fees, living costs and other related costs of the programme. Prospective applicants must be African nationals from Sub Saharan countries (excluding South African nationals), and not older than 36 years of age on the date of nomination. Women are particularly encouraged to apply.


COHRE Training Program at JCRC seeks to strengthen capacity in Uganda to conduct integrated clinical operational and health services research focused on HIV/TB prevention and care. The Program is now soliciting applications from qualified persons for 2012/2013 research projects scholarship (research funds) leading to the award of M.Med, Paediatrics or Internal Medicine; Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology; Master of Public Health; Masters in Health Services Research and any other relevant field. Only students who are in their *second* or *final* year of study on Masters Degree program at Makerere University or Mbarara University of Science and Technology are eligible to apply.

Deadline for receiving applications: 21stSeptember 2012 by 5pm

CUD Belgium Scholarships is now open to selected nationals of developing countries. Pursue a Master's Degree or internship/training in one of Belgium's universities and academic institutions. Deadline is 13 February 2013. Most courses start September 2013.

2013-2014 VLIR-UOS Scholarships will open soon to students from selected developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Pursue a fully-funded Master's Degree in selected programmes related to development at Belgium Universities. Deadline is 1 February 2013 for courses starting September 2013.

Call for Abstracts – Global Maternal Health Conference 2013

GMHC2013 is a technical conference for scientists, researchers, and policy-makers to network, share knowledge, and build on progress toward eradicating preventable maternal mortality and morbidity by improving quality of care. The conference is co-sponsored by Management and Development for Health, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the Maternal Health Task Force at the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA.

In 2010, the first Global Maternal Health Conference was convened in New Delhi, as a partnership with the Public Health Foundation of India and the MHTF. The 2013 conference will build on the successful technical focus and abstract-driven structure of the 2010 conference.

GMHC2013 will be held at the Arusha International Conference Center in Tanzania, January 15-17, 2013, featuring:
- up to 700 participants/presenters
- parallel sessions and poster presentations within 5 tracks
- 3 plenary sessions with leading maternal health experts
- scholarships for developing country-based presenters
- high-level government officials
- a gala event at the new Mt. Meru Hotel
The GMHC 2013 Steering Committee has been established to oversee the conference program. The GMHC2013 Scientific Sub-Committee has been established to review and approve abstracts. A call for abstracts will be issued soon. Guidelines for submitting abstracts and information about conference tracks can be found at: www.maternalhealthtaskforce.org/gmhc2013
