Call for papers: Enabling academic excellence in African universities

The ACU and INASP are seeking contributions to a special supplement for African vice chancellors, rectors and deputy vice chancellors, to be distributed to the 110 universities in ACU membership.  The aim of this supplement will be to profile what African libraries are already doing to advance the research and teaching missions of their universities, and to demonstrate how they can support this into the future.  We are therefore seeking articles from African librarians and information professionals (including IT professionals) which address any of the key themes set out below.  Articles should profile examples of specific services or initiatives which your library is delivering or developing. They should not simply describe the service or initiative, but should explicitly explain how and why this is helping to address the needs of the university. They may take either an institutional view, or present a national or regional library and information initiative. Interested writers should submit a brief abstract of around 300 words which sets out clearly (bullet points are acceptable) the key arguments which they would wish to make in their piece.
The deadline for receipt of abstracts is Friday15th June 2012. Dates for final submission of articles will be agreed with selected writers in due course. Any queries should be addressed to the ACU and INASP: Jonathan Harle (j.harle@acu.ac.uk) or Peter Burnett ( : mailto:j.harle@acu.ac.ukpburnett@inasp.info)  : mailto:pburnett@inasp.info

Google Scholar Citations

Google Scholar Citations provides a simple way for authors to keep track of citations to their articles. You can check who is citing your publications, graph citations over time, and compute several citation metrics. You can also make your profile public, so that it may appear in Google Scholar results when people search for your name, e.g., richard feynman. Best of all, it's quick to set up and simple to maintain - even if you have written hundreds of articles, and even if your name is shared by several different scholars. Get started with Google Scholar Citations.

Google scholar metrics: the easy way to gauge the visibility of your scholarly publications

Google Scholar Metrics provide an easy way for authors to quickly gauge the visibility and influence of recent articles in scholarly publications. While most researchers are familiar with the well-established journals in their field, that is often not the case with newer publications or publications in related fields - there're simply too many of them to keep track of! Scholar Metrics summarize recent citations to many publications, to help authors as they consider where to publish their new research. To get started, you can browse the top 100 publications in several languages, ordered by their five-year h-index and h-median metrics. You can also search for publications by their titles, and then compare the publications that are of interest to you. Finally, if you wish to see which articles in a publication were cited the most and who cited them, click on its h-index number to view the articles as well as the citations underlying the metrics.
