International Conference on Technology and Communications in Health (ITCH): Call for Papers

The Call for Papers is available for the ITCH 2013 conference, to be held on February 21 – 23, 2013, venue the Inn at Laurel Point, Victoria, BC, Canada. The themes of ITCH 2013 will be “Available, tailored and closer: enabling health and healthcare through ICT”. ITCH is an international conference addressing Information Technology and Communications in Health (ITCH), organised by the School of Health Information Science, University of Victoria, BC, Canada (an Academic Institutional Member of IMIA).

Realizing the enabling potential of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is the theme of ITCH 2013. The conference will focus on impacts of ICT on healthcare delivery and personal health. ITCH 2013 invites national and international papers that address one or more of the three broad characteristics of ICT that are realizing their enabling potential: Available, Tailored and Closer.

Persons interested in presenting should submit completed papers to the ITCH 2013 Steering Committee no later than September 10, 2012. Papers, which must be no longer than five pages, will be peer-reviewed for acceptance and publication in Proceedings – ITCH 2013. Authors will be notified of acceptance by October 18, 2012.

Global Maternal Health Conference 2013 (GMHC2013) is a technical conference for scientists, researchers, and policy-makers to network, share knowledge, and build on progress toward eradicating preventable maternal mortality and morbidity by improving the quality of maternal health care. The conference is co-sponsored by Management and Development for Health, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the Maternal Health Task Force at the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA.

Forthcoming conference: The European Conference on Information Literacy (or ECIL) - Instanbul, Turkey 23-25 October 2013

Organized by the Department of Information Management of Hacettepe University and Department of Information and Communication Sciences of Zagreb University, European Conference on Information Literacy (or ECIL) will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, from 22-25 October 2013.

ECIL is an international conference supported by Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, Information Literacy Section of IFLA and many other prestigious universities, associations, and organizations actively involved in media and information literacy.

Call for papers: The International Academy of Physician Associate Educators 5th Annual (16th - 18th, September 2012)

The International Academy of Physician Associate Educators 5th Annual Meeting will be held at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa from the 16th to the 18th of September 2012 under the theme “Exploring the Roles of the Non-Physician Clinician”. IAPAE is pleased to be collaborating with the American International Health Alliance (AIHA)HIV/AIDS Twinning Center and the University of the Witwatersrand Centre for Rural Health in holding this event.

IAPAE 2012 will highlight contemporary issues facing the education of non-physician clinicians (clinical officers, medical officers, clinical associates, physician assistants, etc.) to meet the health care needs of their respective countries. The meeting will focus on defining common competencies, refining scope of practice and breaking down barriers to practice.

PANEL PRESENTATIONS
The conference will provide an opportunity for educators from around the globe to pre-sent short papers within the panel format. Presentations will be limited to 10 minutes each and must be given in English. If you wish to submit a proposal for consideration, please send the following:

Registration for the e/merge 2012 online conference is
open.
 
e/merge 2012 – Open to Change (9th -20th July 2012) is the fourth online conference on educational technology in Africa. The conference is primarily designed to share good practice and knowledge about educational technology innovation within the further and higher education sectors in the Africa, as well as to strengthen communities of researchers and practitioners across the continent.
Participate from anywhere with a reasonable Internet connection and engage with the presentations and discussions, live meetings, workshops, participant driven conversations and social media interactions that are most interesting to you.
Registration is free for all participants based in Africa and costs R750 (approximately $90) for participants in other continents who are not presenters. Call for Papers: 13th Congress of the Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa

Call for Papers: 13th Congress of the Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa  The conference will be held in the city of Praia in Cape Verde and will not only provide a valuable platform for sharing experiences and knowledge but it will also provide an opportunity for the participants to enjoy the beautiful island of Cape Verde.
The Organising Committee invites the submission of papers for presentation at the conference. Papers should reflect the conference theme: "Enhancing Access to Health Information in Africa: Research, Collaboration and Innovation"
The abstracts should be guided by the following sub-themes:
Global partnerships and access to health information in Africa
Empowering end-user access and use of health information
The role of ICT in enhancing access to health information in Africa
Promoting research among healthcare providers through access to health information
Strengthening library and information networks at country level

Abstract submission guidelines
The abstract should be approximately 300 words, single spaced, A4 page size, 12 point font size and in word format.
Indicate names of all the authors and underline the name of the author presenting the paper.
 Include name of institution, city, country and complete address and contacts of the author(s).

Call for Papers: Libraries: the Amazing Gateway to Knowledge and Power!

The IFLA Africa Section is sponsoring an IFLA Satellite meeting to be held in The Auditorium, Pasila Library, Helsinki City Main Library from 9-10 August, 2012.

The Congress offers an opportunity to present library research outcomes and innovations in a multi-disciplinary international forum. In line with the theme of the 78th Africa Section chose the theme: 'Libraries, the amazing gateway to knowledge and power!' IFLA Africa Section invites Librarians, Information Scientists and other stakeholders to submit proposals (abstracts) for papers at the Africa Section Satellite in Helsinki, Finland.

Sub-Themes

  • Libraries: gateways or gatekeepers?
  • Web 3.0 in libraries now: amazing, exciting!
  • Information literacy: enhancing access to knowledge and power in virtual environment
  • Open access and knowledge libraries
  • Partnerships and collaboration: inspiring and exciting opportunities for libraries as gateway to knowledge and power

 

Submission Guidelines

The proposal must be the original work of the author(s) and should be written in either English or French. Each abstract must contain:
  • Title of proposed presentation
  • Outline of the proposed presentation (no more than 350 words)
  • Name(s) of presenter(s)
  • Position or title of presenter(s)
  • Presenter(s) employer or affiliated institution
  • E-mail address, Telephone/fax numbers
  • Short biographical statement of the presenter/s, with digital photograph

All proposals will be evaluated by a refereeing team of the Standing Committee of the IFLA Africa Section.

All proposals must be in before 17 June 2012.

 

Please note

All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation can be issued to authors.  Presenters are advised to approach their parent organizations for sponsorship.

Conference Themes

Information in modern society is valued as an essential component in the daily lives of people, both on individual and organisational levels. Increasingly we expect information to meet our needs through technological interventions or interactions. Indeed, recent technological developments have accentuated contemporary conceptions of the Library and Information field as an intersection of information, technology, people and society.
