TRAINING ON LITERATURE REVIEW SKILLS AND PLAGIARISM FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS AT MUHAS



The Directorate of Library Services (DLS) is planning to conduct a training workshop on literature review

skills and plagiarism for Postgraduate students on Wednesday  th March, 2017 at the Library computer

lab from 2pm to 5pm.


 The following topics will be covered:

 Introduction to literature review

 Deciding on aim

 Organize formal argument

 A critical analysis and constructive synthesis

 Database for literature search

 Overview of plagiarism and detection on online tools for anti-plagiarism

A WORKSHOP ON OPEN DATA, OPEN SCIENCE AND OPEN ACCESS TO FACULTY MEMBERS AT MUHAS

The Directorate of library services is planning to conduct training on Open data, Open Science and Open access to faculty members at MUHAS 16th to 17th March, 2017.

The content of the workshop include:
    Introduction to open data, open access and open science
     Databases and tools for open access journals, repositories
      Online tools for open science aggregators and publishing platforms
            - Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier (ORCD)
            - Plagiarism and copyright issues issues 
           - Publication & citation analysis
           - Web 2.0, Google documents, online surveys and information self-services

This workshop will be conducted from 09:00am to 3:00pm at MUHAS Library ICT Lab.
The workshop is free to all academic staff at MUHAS.

WORKSHOP ON DIGITAL REPOSITORIES AND WEB 2.0 TECHNOLOGIES (18th – 20th April, 2017)

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The three days workshop will equip participants with relevant knowledge and skills in Digital repository, and web 2.0 technologies.
COURSE CONTENTS:
Specifically the workshop will cover the following:
·         Introduction to Digital Repository and Web 2.0 technologies
·         Introduction to Open source software (e.g. working with Linux software) and e-resources.
·         Work with Dspace software to set up a digital repository
·         Use web 2.0 tools to feature the contents of a digital repository

TARGET GROUP:
Professionals involved in information management, institutional management, librarians, information scientists, researchers, postgraduate students, lecturers, project administrators, ICT professionals and any other professionals working with cutting edge technologies.

WORKSHOP DATES AND VENUE:
The workshop will be conducted from Tuesday 18th to Thursday 20th April 2017 (3 days) at Muhimbili University Library ICT LAB
WORKSHOP FEE:
The workshop fee is TZS 350,000/= per each participant covering the course fee, stationeries, refreshments and certificates. Participants are requested to arrange transport and accommodation at their own cost.
FACILITATORS:
The course will be facilitated by experienced subject and educational specialists from Muhimbili University Library in collaboration with their counterpart from the University of Dar es Salaam Library.
PAYMENT MODE:
Payment is due before start of workshop. Kindly be informed that the library has established research support services unit which intends to assist library users on the following areas: 
  • Library Online Catalogue and Institutional Repository (IR) services: We support and advise users on the use of the university library online access catalogue and the IR.
  • Reference queries and library user guides
  • Online information retrieval services
  • Tailored trainings on the use of library e-resource for postgraduates and faculty (on demand)
  • Citation and Reference Management Services: Installation and using reference management software 
  • Citation Impact Services: guidance enabling you to assess the citation impact of your own research.
  • Open Access and  Scholarly communication services: Provide assistance in the publication and promotion of your research, including guidance on the open access publishing 
  • Research Data Management Plan (DMP) services: Use DMP tool to create, review and share data management plans to meet institutional and funders’ requirements

Participants are students are required to bring their own laptops during the training session. The following topics will be covered:
  • Introduction to Reference Management 
  • Installation of Reference Management software(Mendeley) Library 
  • Creation of Mendeley Library
  • Management of References 
  • Citing while writing 
  • Sharing of citation 

Students are encouraged to install Mendeley software before training
